Eastern Young Athletes, Colchester

Our team finished second at Colchester behind Basildon.  We now lie fifth in the league with the August home match to go. We have 3 of the other top 7 teams at the match so a strong performance will be needed to make the Top Six final. Results.

Wins in the 100m for DJ Agbenu U13 13.2, Olivia Russell U17 12.7 and Iano Newbegin U15 12.6, Etienne Maughan U13was just edged out with a PB of 12.9. Lewis Smith U17 won the 200m 23.6, as did DJ Agbenu U13 27.9, Olivia Russell U17 27.5, Iona Newbegin U15 26.2 Natalie Smith won the U13 800m 2:28.7 PB. Tia Wilson won the U17 1500m 4:51.7. Etienne Maughan U13 had a clear win in the 70mH 12.0 as did Gracie Wall in the B 12.1. Dominika Domel U15 ran the fastest 75mH 12.5 PB. Stephen Simmon U15 won the 80mH 11.5, Josh Methen U17 won the 100mH 16.4. The U13 & U15 Girls won the 4x100m relays. There were high jump wins for Ashley Evans U17 1.75 & Marlon Duke U13 1.40.  Frankie Johnson won the U17 Pole Vault 4.50, Rosie Bailey U17 2.10 also won. Reon-Ashley Lewis U17 won the Long Jump 5.85 as did Dominika Domel U15 4.65. Kye Charlton Brown U17 won the shot putt 13.39, DJ Agbenu U13 7.03 & Kenyeh Soyei U15 10.91. Shahla Bah U13 won the Discus 17.50. Frankie Johnson U17 won the Hammer 26.78. Nathan Litchfield won the U15 Javelin 30.48 PB

A mens team much weakened by the loss of athletes to the Euro Masters finished third in the match and second overall to MMKAC and so qualified for the final in September at Bedford. Some important points were gained by the “reserves”.  Results

National Youth Development League Upper Southern Premier 2B, Tonbridge

A strong team performance by Team Bedfordshire on Sunday gave us a win in the final match 617 points to Havering’s 608 & Tonbridge’s 596.  We won the division with 23 points with Havering second on 20 points securing the single promotion spot to the Southern Premier division next year.


Some good performances but not many wins on the track. Josie Smith U20 500m 2:36.4, Ben Davies U20 3000m 8:48.7, Richard Laursen U17 3000m 09:57.9. More success in the field Harrison Greenaway U17 High Jump 1.75, Frankie Johnson U20 Pole Vault 4.75, Reon-Ashley Lewis U17 Long Jump 6.08, Ite Aderoju U17 Triple Jump 10.47.

Lauren Russell broke the club record and U20 400m records running for GB in the heats of the European U20 championships in Italy 53.71 qualifying for the semi finals 54.41 and then the final where she finished fifth 53.87.

A small team went to Leigh.  Results We were eight in the match 1.5pts behind Harrow and finished eigth overall with 6 points from three matches level with Bristol & West and are relegated. It was close amongst the bottom four clubs. 6 points to 9 league points and just 32 match points. Bristol had the most match points of the four teams. Harrow and Enfield kept their places.

Southern Athletics League Division 1, Chelmsford  Full Results

In another close match we were second on 193 points behind Southampton 207pts and just ahead of host Chelmsford 187 and Colchester 180.

Although short on numbers our women covered every event and the men all bar the high hurdles. The men struggled for wins on the track Jean Mozobo won the Long Jump 5.97 and the Triple Jump 12.91, Richard Martin won the hammer 58.44. Belinda Sargent won the 100mH 15.6 and Diana Chalmers won the 1500SC 5:29.5.  Emily Cartledge won the High Jump 1.60, Belinda Sargent won the Long Jump 5.00 & Triple Jump 10.85. Katie Winwood won the hammer 39.53.

Some excellent performances with a win for Frankie Johnson - his third on the trot. Third in the 100m for Raphael Bouju equalling the club U17 record. Third in the 1500m for Ben Davies and a long shot putt for Kenyeh Soyei for fifth breaking the club U15 record. Iona Newbegin made the 100m final & Stephen Simmons the sprint hurdles final.

Bedford were third at Norwich on 717.5 points behind Ipswich 751 and Norwich 742.5. We now lie fourth overall on 19 points and meet two of the teams above us Havering 21 and Nene Valley 20 in the final match plus Chelmsford 18 who are a couple of places below.

Lots of fast sprints and PB’s Reon-Ashley Lewis U17 11.4, DJ Abinye U13 13.1. A PB of 4:44.1 for Zena Saez U13 in the U15 1500m, a PB for Natalie Simmons U13 in the 1500m 5:04.2. Ruby Green U13 was on top of her PB in the 75H 11.9. Frankie Johnson soared to 4.85m in the U17 Pole Vault.
